Amanda's advice, Attitude is EVERYTHING!!

I often get asked, what my best advice is for brides shopping for their gowns, and my answer is always the same: Keep an open mind. This is so important, and key to having a successful visit.

Buying a wedding gown can be very exciting. It can also be terrifying. It can make you feel your most beautiful, and it can also bring up all sorts of body image issues. While every bride and every experience is different, the one thing I can tell you with complete confidence, is that the brides who keep an open mind have the best experiences.

We recently had a bridal appointment start like this:
Consultant: “Are you ready to get started?!? We’re going to have some fun today!!”
Bride: “I doubt it.”

Throughout the appointment, this bride refused to try on gowns that her consultant suggested, and found fault with everything, even the gowns she liked best. It probably won’t surprise you to know that this appointment didn’t end well. For whatever reason, this particular bride was not open to the possibility that she could have fun at her bridal appointment and leave the shop feeling beautiful instead of defeated.

Situations like this make me really sad, because we truly want every bride to have a fabulous experience with us, even if she buys her bridal gown elsewhere. However, there isn’t much we can do with a bad attitude.

This is why my “keep an open mind” advice is key. If you come to your appointment with a good attitude and an open mind, we can do our job properly. If you start out with a bad attitude, like with everything else in life, you’ll probably end up disappointed.

I have had many, many brides tell me that the dress she bought was nothing like what she expected to buy, and if she hadn’t kept an open mind she never would have found “the one.” Let’s face it, it’s not like you wear a wedding gown every day, so it’s entirely possible that you may love something different than what you had in mind. This is where keeping an open mind and trusting your trained, professional consultant is key.

Most of the brides who visit our shop buy their gowns with us, which is awesome! We appreciate their business and we’re honored to be a part of their special day. Some of the brides who visit our shop do not buy their gowns with us, and that’s okay too. We don’t have the perfect dress for every bride, but we’re still honored that we got to be a part of her special day, even in a small way.

I can promise you that all of the lovely consultants at Bombshell want nothing more than for each bride to find a beautiful dress that she feels fantastic wearing, whether it’s with us or at another shop. You won’t find a more dedicated staff, so do us a favor… When you come in for your bridal appointment, trust us and keep an open mind.

XOXO
Amanda

  2. I cannot agree with this anymore! I went into BB looking for a specific style dress and when I didn't see it decided to try on some others just to see if just maybe I'd find one I liked. There was one dress in particular I wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with because on the rack it looked like there was WAY too much going on in it for me and steered clear of it. Luckily I had Amanda as my consultant that day and when she went looking for some dresses for me to try on, grabbed that particular dress. After a few back and forths about it, she finally convinced me to try it on, and I am so glad she did!! As soon as I looked in the mirror, I knew it was The One!! The one dress in that store that I absolutely didn't want anything to do with just because of the way it looked on the rack, and here I am absolutely in love with it!! I cannot wait to go in and order it soon so that I will look and feel awesome on my special day!! ^_^

    1. YAY! I am so glad that you went outside of your "comfort zone" to try on something different! It's crazy how different the gowns look on vs. on the hanger!

12 Things Brides Forget Before Their Wedding Day

BRING EXTRA SHOES! Those gorgeous heels you bought? Yeah, by the time the reception rolls around your feet will be killing you! Bring an extra pair of flats so you can keep dancing and socializing the night away. You’ll thank me later. Decide what to do with the gifts. This is often forgotten during the wedding planning process, but still pretty important thing to remember! Make sure you assign someone to pack up the gifts and tell them where to take them. Especially if you are leaving on your honeymoon that night! You don’t want to decide what to do with them after you have had a few glasses of champagne. ;) Assign someone responsible to take care of the marriage license! Your officiant will take two copies and one is your souvenir. (Yes, you will sign three of them.) Make sure you don’t ask your cousin who has had 4 possibly 6 drinks that night already. A pretty hanger for your wedding dress. Since your dress will be photographed you want to make s...

#WeddingWednesday Taara + Malcolm 9-5-15

Wait until you see how beautiful Taara is! Their wedding was BEAUTIFUL! See what she had to say about her big day: "Our ceremony took place at Rock of  Ages Christian Ministries.   Our ceremony was short and sweet and only lasted about 20 minutes. My dad walked me down the aisle as my only brother sang to me.  I had my 2 favorite guys share this special moment with me and that meant everything to me. My husband and I exchanged vows and demonstrated us becoming one by taking part in a wine communion ceremony.  Once that was all said and done, we were introduced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Hatcher. My fiancĂ© thought that I was the most beautiful bride in the world. He absolutely loved my dress. I felt like a princess in my wedding dress. I never in a million years though that I could feel that way ! Being plus size can put a lot of doubt in your mind when it comes to finding that perfect dress for on...

#WeddingWednesday Cori + Steven 10-24-15

Our wedding theme was paper airplanes because of a short film my husband and I fell in love with. We also were never huge fans of flowers being the focal point, so using paper was fun and unique to us. It also made wedding planning easier not having to handle real flowers so we could get things done months in advance.  It was in the fall so we did use mini pumpkins for escort cards, and we drilled wholes in big pumpkins and put changing LED lights in them. We had paper airplanes on our cake, my necklace, and even on our bouquets and boutonnieres! Also instead of a book for people to sign, we made paper airplanes to later put in a big shadow box.  One of the easiest parts of our 15 month wedding planning adventure was finding my dress! I had gone to a previous shop but it was more so to have a better idea as to what I actually liked and flattered me the most. So once I got to Bombshell finding my dress was amazingly simple and quick! I think my dress endin...
